Frequently asked questions

Is this convention only for people who have been in D.A. a long time?

Absolutely not! This convention is designed with the newcomer in mind. We have a dedicated “First 30 Days” track and sessions specifically for those who are still “hurting” (incurring new debt). You’ll find that the “old-timers” are there specifically to help you find your footing.

I’m currently in a financial crisis. Is it okay to attend?

Yes. In fact, there is no better place to be. You will hear from people who started exactly where you are—facing collections, legal issues, or total uncertainty—and found a way out through the 12 Steps of D.A. You don’t need to have your act together to show up.

Do I have to speak or share my financial details?

Only if you want to. Many sessions include “Open Sharing,” but you are always welcome to just listen with no video. Your anonymity is protected, and you are never required to disclose your income, debt load, or personal details to the group.

I’m nervous. Will I fit in?

Compulsive debting is a disease of isolation. The moment you join, you’ll realize you aren’t the only one who has struggled with these patterns. You aren’t “bad” or “wrong”—you are a person with a disease that has a solution. You belong here.

What if I don’t speak the languages listed in the sessions?

You’re in luck! There will be automatic translation captioning for members to understand sessions in over 20 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Tamil, and Russian. We also believe that “Recovery is our common language”—you’ll find the spirit of the message transcends words!

Is there a “dress code” or a “fee” for the social events?

D.A. is a spiritual program, not a corporate one. Come as you are! All sessions are included with registration, which requests a suggested contribution but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. We celebrate with the “currency” of connection, not credit cards.

DA50 is more than a convention – it is a celebration of 50 years of recovery, service, and hope. Whether you attend, volunteer, or propose a session, your participation helps strengthen the worldwide Debtors Anonymous community.

We look forward to celebrating with you!
